2024 changed format

The Mudhook champions 2-handed racing on the Clyde in 2024

The Mudhook Yacht Club will promote 2-handed racing on the Clyde in 2024 with a new regatta and a season-long championship series, both exclusively for boats racing 2-handed. 2-handed racing has been one of the biggest success stories in sailing over the last five years and the Clyde now has the opportunity to join this popular movement.

The Mudhook's 2-handed event on Saturday 1 June will take the place of the conventional regatta which the club has organised for many years for IRC and CYCA handicap and one design classes. Races at the June event will be provided for both spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes and it is planned to hold two races, an initial short one and then a longer one, both round fixed marks selected on the day. Racing will be on CYCA handicaps and each of the spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes can be sub-divided to provide better racing if there are sufficient entries. The 1 June races will be part of a new series also organised by the Mudhook but incorporating events of other clubs throughout the season.

The constituent events are as follows:

  • Sat 27 April CCC Round Bute Race - Inverkip to Largs
  • Sat 1 June MYC 2-handed Regatta - Inverkip (2 races)
  • Sat 15 June Isle of Bute SC Round Bute Race – Rothesay
  • Sat 13 July CCYC Tarbert Race
  • Sat 10 August RNCYC Bicentenary Regatta - East Patch (2 races)
  • Sat 31 August Fairlie YC/Largs Regatta Festival Scottish 2-handed Race - Largs - long and short courses.

The series therefore includes 8 races over 6 events and the best 5 results will count for the series.
